According to reports, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told fullbacks Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw to provide width similar to United legends David Beckham and Ryan Giggs during the club’s glory years.
The Norwegian cited his two former teammates as examples for Wan-Bissaka and Shaw to follow, as both Giggs and Beckham formed one of the club’s greatest midfield alongside Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.
Solskjaer said: “It’s different demands in different systems.
“We still have the same principles of a Man United full back: you need to be good at defending and good going forward.
“It’s a position we’ve always been very good at and we know we need assists and even goals from them. Both of them have played and developed, I think they’re improving.
“We don’t really have wide, wide wingers like we used to in Giggsy and David Beckham, so we are more and more dependent on full-backs coming and giving us width.”
