Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has claimed it will likely take the club 15 or 20 years before winning the Premier League title again especially if Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola remain at Liverpool and Manchester City respectively.
It’s already seven years since we won our last Premier League trophy during 2012/2013 season in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge.
Since then we have not even come close to regaining the league title, finishing second just once in 2017/18, but 19 points behind champions Manchester City.
Despite finishing third last season, we still don’t ‘t look capable to break the City and Liverpool stranglehold on the Premier League title.
“100% it could [be 10 or 12 years]. It could be 15 or 20 years before you know it,” Giggs told Jamie Carragher on The Greatest Game podcast.
“Especially if [Jurgen] Klopp and [Pep] Guardiola stick around, they’ve got the resources and obviously the players.”
Giggs has seen how easily this can happen and even when a club finds the right formula, it can take time for it to be successful.
He went on: “I think we have got Liverpool to look at, the last time they won it, they thought “we’ll win it again soon.”
“Even Klopp, it took four-and-a-half years to win it, it takes a long time.
“I think what Klopp did, he improved every season or won a trophy, won the Champions League, you see that improvement so the pressure is off a little bit.
“Whereas every manager, every signing is seen as ‘he’ll win us the league’ but it’s not like that.”
