According to reports, Manchester United missed out on a chance to sign RB Leipzig centre back, Dayot Upamecano five years ago, due to a disagreement over £200k.

Prior to him joining Leipzig for £9 million in 2017, United could have signed the player, when he was just 16, but they didn’t want to pay everything requested by his then side, Valenciennes.

The French side had requested £700,000 from United for Upamecano, buy the Red Devils were willing to pay just £500,000.

The Frenchman had even already travelled with his mom to Old Trafford, with hopes of finalising the deal, only for him to return to France, disappointed.

The Sun quotes a source as saying, “Dayot wanted to join United and the fee really was nothing.

“At first he got the red-carpet treatment but then they would not go that bit further with their offer and he was gone.”

Upamecano would later join RB Salzburg, where he began his professional career, before joining Leipzig.

Today, he’s now one of the most sought after defenders in the world, with United also said to be back in for him— but the difference is he’s now worth £55 million!
