The goalless draw between Manchester United and Chelsea has come and gone, but one of its key moments— the supposed ‘foul’ Harry Maguire committed on Blues’ captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, continues to be a topic of conversation.
While the referee and VAR didn’t think the moment was deserving of a penalty decision, former Red Devil, Patrice Evra and ex-Chelsea man, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believe it should have been given.
The two ex-players were present to watch the match on Sky Sports, and when asked their thoughts on the moment, both agreed it was a clear penalty.
“This is 100 percent a penalty,” said Hasselbaink during the half time break.
“What is Maguire doing?
“If you see it from a different angle, he’s just strangling Azpilicueta here and stops him from jumping. He’s putting his weight on his shoulders.”
Evra, who is known to be very vocal about United-related issues also added jokingly, “I used to watch wrestling but this is a clear penalty.
“I think we can talk all day but it’s a clear penalty for Chelsea.”
I think we can all agree it was maybe a moment of poor judgement from Maguire, but the penalty wasn’t given, and we have to move on from that.
