Manchester United and Chelsea play out a drab goalless draw as points are shared at Old Trafford

It ended in a goalless draw at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Chelsea. The opening exchanges saw both sides adopt a pragmatic style.

There were chances for both sides in the first half with Marcus Rashford forcing Edouard Mendy into a good reaction save on 35 minutes to keep the score goalless.

However, both sides had penalty shouts, first with Chelsea claiming there was an infringement in the United box on Cesar Azpilicueta by Harry Maguire just after the half hour mark during a Chelsea free kick.

One minute later VAR was checking a potential foul on Rashford who had been clipped in the box by Thiago Silva. However, no foul play was deemed to have taken place and play continued.

Scoring chances were far and between as both sides could only carve out five shots on target.

Rashford thought he had won it for United in the dying moments of the game, but Chelsea goalie Mendy managed to just get a hand to his curling shot to deny the Red devils all three points.
