Ex-Manchester United midfielder, Darren Fletcher, has backed Bruno Fernandes to go on and become a club great like Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Manchester United player’s comments come after Fernandes again gave his best to help United secure all three points against Paris Saint-Germain in France on Tuesday.
Fernandes, who was in on the goals had missed a penalty— but showed calm nerves to bury it after the referee ordered it be retaken.
Speaking on BT Sport about the Portuguese’s performance, Fletcher hailed his self-confidence.
He said, “It is not a great penalty the first one, it goes too close to the goalkeeper, he goes back to his hop, skip and jump, but credit to him.
“He’s the captain, and that could easily be a Eric Cantona or Cristiano Ronaldo, somebody having that belief in themselves that they missed a penalty at the weekend and missed a penalty there.
“But there was only one person taking that penalty there and that was Bruno Fernandes.”
Bruno Fernandes will now be hoping his good form carries on into this weekend’s clash against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, who can be an unpredictable side, especially with their best players now available for selection.
