Inter Milan will try to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling if they can sell Milan Skriniar to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
José Mourinho has reportedly identified the Slovekia international as a defensive target, but Inter’s £46 million asking price is proving a challenge.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are looking at Smalling as replacement for Skriniar, if they manage to sell him to Mourinho’s side.
Smalling spent the entirety of the 2019/20 season on loan at AS Roma, where he impressed before returning to Old Trafford.
The Italian side are keen to sign him on a permanent basis, but United’s £18 million demand has stopped the deal from being completed.
Reports say Smalling has grown frustrated with the situation of things, and has had talks with United manager, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer over it.
The 30 year old is reportedly keen to leave, after discovering he isn’t part of Solskjaer’s plans for this season.
