According to reports, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is training alone at the club with Italian side AS Roma unwilling to meet our £25 million valuation of Smalling.
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Roma and the Serie A club are keen to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal.
According to reports in Italy earlier this month, Roma opened discussions with the club with an offer of £11m for the player who is clearly not part of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans for this season.
The player trained on his own at Carrington ahead of our Carabao Cup game against Luton Town. It is believed he is keen on a move to Roma on a permanent basis.
Meanwhile, Roma manager Paulo Fonseca said last week that he believes Smalling will end up joining his side once again
“I’m confident,” Fonseca said. “We’re working to get Smalling here.
“I’m in contact with him, I spoke to him yesterday. ‘He wants to be here and we want him here. He could join us in the next few days.”
