Manchester United youngster, Teden Mengi, appears to have been handed the number 43 shirt for the ongoing 2020/21 season, according to Manchester Evening News.
The 18 year old made an appearance in United’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, in a pre-season friendly over the weekend, and was seen wearing the kit number.
This is a clear upgrade on the previous 71 worn by Mengi, as seen on his first senior appearance for the Red Devils, back in August.
With Mengi getting an upgrade to the 43 Jersey, it could mean he is gradually making an impression on the boss, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer, and could feature more prominently for the team this season.
Upon making his United debut in the Europa League last month, Mengi admitted that he looked up to the likes of fellow academy product Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams, who have broken into the team.
Mengi said, “Of course. Especially Brandon, because we both play in defence.
“So when I saw him kicking on, it made me even hungrier. It made me think: why can’t I do it? Obviously I got my opportunity today.”
