Sky Sports pundit, Paul Merson, has warned Olé Gunnar Solskjaer that this season is a very important season for his career, and the way he finishes could decide his future at the club.
The Norwegian finished third in his first full season in charge of Manchester United, after taking over from José Mourinho the previous season, but many will be expecting him to build on the success, and challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.
Part of the struggles Solskjaer’s team had last season was inconsistency, as they lost and drew too many games earlier in the season, and Merson believes avoiding a repeat could be key to ensuring success this term for the Red Devils.
Speaking recently on Sky Sports, the former Arsenal man said, “This is the season for Manchester United. It’s going to be tight and a lot of teams will be vying for the title and the top four.
“They have only got to start this season like they finished the last and they will be in the mix. What Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to do is get out of the habit of going on a roll where they couldn’t lose a game and a roll where they couldn’t win a game.
“That cannot happen because if they have a bad month where they don’t win a game, they will be out of the title race in an instant. I don’t care if it’s Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, or United, if you have a bad month, you’ll be out of the title race, that is how ruthless this season will be.”
Man United will officially begin their 2020/21 season on Saturday, September 19, after taking an extended break due to their involvement in the Europa League last season.
