Manchester United legend Owen Hargreaves has urged the club to continue with the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho after Liverpool legend Graeme Souness urged for the club to withdraw from the transfer race.

Writing in a column for The Times, Souness said: “It looks like Manchester United will have to spend the best part of £100million to get Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund in this window and I’m not sure that’s their priority.

“There are other places they need to strengthen because Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford can score in any company.”

But former Manchester United and England midfielder Hargreaves insists Sancho would be perfect’ for the Red Devils, and also advised the club to do everything they can to secure his signature.

He told talkSPORT: “I hope he comes over here. He would be perfect for Manchester United.

“I don’t think they [Borussia Dortmund] have much of an argument because they’ve pretty much sold everyone, whether it’s been Lewandowski, Hummels, Gotze or Dembele.

“Everyone has pretty much left there. We know they are a selling club and it’s obviously about money.

“In Jadon, as much as we are in a difficult space right now with everything going in the world, it will be money well spent.

“You just have to get the deal done. You saw what Bruno Fernandes did to Manchester United. Jadon would do the same.”
