Former Manchester United forward, Louis Saha, has urged the Red Devils to make a move for ex- Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edison Cavani, after his exit from the French club.
Despite being 33, Cavani remains one of the best strikers around, especially considering his record with Uruguay, Napoli and PSG.
The Uruguayan recently held talks over a possible move to Benfica, but Saha believes United should be in the race to sign him.
Speaking on the Football Index Podcast, Saha said: “I think Manchester United are missing a trick by not signing Edinson Cavani this summer.
“I’ve followed him for many years and I’m gutted there doesn’t seem to be an interest there.
“For me, Cavani would be the best fit this summer. Cavani has a great eye for goal and his leadership would be a great asset. He has qualities that are very difficult to find on the transfer market.”
Saha also suggested United go for Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, as he could offer some physical presence for the club upfront.
“I think Moussa Dembele could be an interesting signing for Manchester United,” he added.
“I know from my time at Fulham that Dembele is physically strong and he would be a very good target man.
“He would be able to hold up the play and bring wide players into the game as an effective plan B against some opposition.”
We’re not sure about Cavani, but United are said to already be on Dembele, who had a fine outing for Lyon in both the Ligue 1 and Champions League last season.
