Twitter have offered their unreserved apology to Phil Jones, after making a mess on Wednesday.
The UK account of the social media platform had tweeted a joke that read, “Name a better footballer than Phil Jones”, which attracted all sorts of negative comments the way of the defender.
It didn’t go down well with Jones and Manchester United, who laid an official complaint to Twitter, and it was taken down with an apology.
Explaining the tweet, a spokesperson for the Twitter said, “Our aim was to showcase our new product feature — which allows you to select who can reply to a tweet. It was not our intention to cause upset and once we realised our mistake, we immediately deleted the tweet.”
Twitter Indeed recently launched a feature that allows a user choose who can reply their tweet, but as commendable as the innovation was, they failed to choose a good enough way to test it.
