Dimitar Berbatov is confident Manchester United can win the Europa League, but has warned his former side not to take Sevilla lightly, if they meet in the semi-finals of the competition.
United play FC Copenhagen on Monday, and could face the Andalusians in the semis, if they overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Speaking under his column for BetFair, Berbatov recalled United have often found it hard to get past Spanish teams, and warned they could deny the Red Devils Europa League glory.
He wrote, “For some reason United find it difficult to play against Spanish teams. They play very technical football, and pass the ball around a lot. You can’t let them set the tempo of the game if you want to succeed against them.
“Sevilla are a tough side and they have history, I remember two years ago when they knocked out United in the Champions League. Ultimately, it’s good to play tough teams to test yourself and see where you are in your development as a team.
“At the end of the day, this is Manchester United, you respect every team but fear no one, other teams should fear United.”
Indeed, Sevilla are a very difficult side to play. They have good knowledge of the competition too, having won it in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2016, and could cause any team problems.
However, like Berbatov clearly pointed out, Manchester United are one of the biggest teams in world football, and that alone should count for them.
United are also on a good run of form, so the encounter should be interesting, should it happen.
