Despite losing Angel Gomes for free, Manchester United is set to receive a nominal fee from French side, Lille, who signed him recently.
Gomes joined the French club this week, after running out of a contract at Old Trafford, and refusing to sign a new one.
But he has been loaned out to Primeira Liga side, Boavista, where he’ll spend the coming season.
United will however, be receiving a nominal fee of £260k from Lille because the Englishman is a graduate of the club’s academy, and he’s still under 24.
A similar situation occurred when Paul Pogba left to join Juventus in 2012; they too had to pay a nominal fee.
Meanwhile, Gomes has written an open letter to United and the fans, expressing gratitude for the opportunity he was given to grow with the club.
