Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has urged the club to prioritise squad depth and has also suggested we take a leaf from rivals Manchester City.
He told Webby and O’Neill:
“The lads got a little bit tired. Having a strength in depth where you’re able to change it and you’re not really weakening.
“I think that’s what City have had; if Sterling doesn’t play then Mahrez comes in, or if Bernardo Silva doesn’t play then Foden comes in. That sort of thing where it doesn’t really weaken them but you’re able to keep them fresh.
“Also, something I experienced at United, every day in training is competitive. The quality in training goes up as quality players come in. Then, all of a sudden, the players who have done so well at the end of the season are looking over their shoulders.
“If you sign Sancho or Grealish, everyone is looking wondering ‘is he going to take my place? No he’s not, I want to take us onto the next level’. So you need that strength in depth, quality and good lads as well.”
