Chris Smalling appears set for a return to Old Trafford, as reports say AS Roma have given up hopes of securing his signature permanently.
Roma had been hopeful of keeping the centre back, who impressed for them during his loan spell from Manchester United last season.
However, United have reportedly rejected their latest offer for the Englishman, as they hold out for their £18 million valuation of him.
Smalling featured in 37 games across all competitions for Roma last season, scoring three goals in the process, and helping to them to fifth.
Having played his last match there, the 30 year old is now expected to return to Old Trafford, to rejoin his teammates, despite doubts over his future in Olé Gunnar Solskjaer team.
