Two English clubs battling for the signature of highly rated Manchester United player

According to reports, Championship clubs Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Manchester United midfielder James Garner on a loan deal.

Swansea City are believed to be leading the race to sign the youngster on loan from Manchester United this summer, with Sheffield Wednesday also in contention for his signature.

The Welsh club are likely to win the race for the player’s signature as Garner has already worked with Swansea boss Steve Cooper when he was England Under-17s manager.

Doncaster Rovers are also interested, but it’s understood that the club would prefer to loan him to a Championship club.

Meanwhile, the Red devils Under-23s boss Neil Wood has backed the player’s loan move.

“Jimmy has been around first-team training throughout the season,” Wood told the Athletic on Garner.

“He has trained with them then come back with us. The opportunity is there for him. That said, there is a lot of experience in the manager and coaching staff and if they feel like a loan would suit him, I definitely think it would be important to get him the right club.

“I think it would be a good test for him to go out play regularly; one or two games a week if he drops down to the Championship.”
