Paul Merson predicts how the title race will look next season

The Premier League will be wrapped up on Sunday, July 26, in what will be an appealing finale.

Liverpool have already been crowned champions for this season, after winning 31 out of their 37 matches so far, and indeed, it has been an incredible run for the champions, as hurtful as that may be to admit for United fans.

Manchester United didn’t begin this season well, but have been on a great run of form lately, and will be hopeful of finishing in the top four on Sunday.

But with the current season set to finish, and the next commencing on September 12, eyes are already on the title race, with many making predictions as to how things will unfold.

Where will United finish? Will we fight for the title or will Liverpool have another easy ride to a second in quick succession.

Popular pundit, Paul Merson recently weighed in on the title race for next season, and said he believes Liverpool will repeat the same feat as this season.

He told StarSport: “I would be surprised if they [Liverpool] didn’t go on and do it again next season.

“Manchester City are a brilliant team, make no mistake and they can blow anyone away on their day.

“But Liverpool are more consistent. They can win games when they are not playing well and City haven’t been able to do that because their defence hasn’t been as good.

“It’s shame Liverpool had to lift the Premier League trophy in front of an empty stadium at Anfield.

“I can remember the last time Liverpool won the title in 1990, because I was in the Arsenal side that did the same thing the following season.

“Back then you knew if you finished above Liverpool then you’d basically be champions. They were so dominant at that time.

“But I think their fans will definitely get the chance to celebrate a Premier League trophy presentation inside Anfield in the future, because this won’t be the last time Liverpool win the title.”

Well, Liverpool have been superb this term, but with the likes of Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal and Tottenham looking to strengthen their sides this summer, we doubt things will be as rosy for the Merseyside club.

Already, United have identified Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund as a priority target this summer, and we expect many more to follow, in what should be a strong transfer window.
