Premier League legend Alan Shearer, has called on the boss, Olé Gunnar Solskjaer, to drop David De Gea from Manchester United’s starting eleven.
The former Newcastle striker made the call while speaking to BBC One recently, as the goalie’s form of late came under scrutiny. He also urged Solskjaer to recall Dean Henderson from Sheffield United, and make him number one.
Shearer said: “I think it’s time (to drop him). It keeps happening.
“I think you bring Henderson back when you think he’s going to be number one. He has to bring him back as number one otherwise keep him out on loan for experience, but, has that time come? Yes, I think it has.”
De Gea came under heavy criticism again last Sunday, as Chelsea beat United 3-1 at Wembley, to progress to the FA Cup final, after allowing two cheap goals into his net.
Many believe he has lost the form that saw him receive commendations all too often seasons ago, and want Solskjaer to bring back Henderson, who has been on Chelsea’s radar as well.
The Blues are struggling in the goalkeeping department, and Frank Lampard is believed to be eyeing Henderson, who has impressed so far on-loan at Sheffield United.
