According to reports by LaRoma24 (h/t Daily Express), Manchester United are close to reaching an agreement with Italian side AS Roma for the signing of defender Chris Smalling for £14m within the coming week.
Although the club had initially demanded £25million to part ways with Smalling permanently, it seems like the transfer fee has been reduced significantly.
The 30-year-old centre-back has been impressive for the Seria A side, making 32 appearances over the course of his loan spell.
Smalling has two years left on his contract with United and it’ll be interesting if the deal will be completed as expected.
Manchester United are keen to sign a defender next season, and one could wonder if Smalling should be kept back after a successful loan spell with Roma.
