Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has revealed text message he received from United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that motivated him to improve his game as a striker.
The Norwegian asked him if he wanted the No.9 shirt and insisted that Martial must earn it.
Recalling a conversation with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year, Anthony Martial told Canal+: “He [Solskjaer] sent me a message, he said ‘do you want to take your no.9 shirt back?’
“I straight up said yes! I said yes and he told me now it’s up to you to show me [that you deserve it] every time you’re on the pitch.”
The French striker has definitely proven his worth as our No.9, scoring 21 goals in all competitions including 16 in the Premier League for United this season.
He has also matched Robin van Persie’s record of scoring in five consecutive home games for Manchester United.
He’s been on fire since the season restart and looks determined to reach the 25-goal mark which Solskjaer demanded from him earlier this season.
