Former Manchester United and Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves has claimed Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is a more talented player than Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Old Trafford and has scored 16 goals in all competitions, while Foden has had to wait longer to establish himself as a starter at the Etihad.
Both have been in impressive form since the Premier League resumed in June.
Despite playing in different positions, the rivalry and talent of both players has led to comparisons between the promising English duo.
Former England midfielder says Foden is the more talented player.
“I remember when I was doing some coaching with the U14s [at Manchester CIty] and he [Foden] was half the size of everyone else,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
“He had to be clever to stay one step ahead. He’s grown so much and he’s literally twice the size now. Once he stops growing and his co-orinadation gets better he’s going to be unplayable. I think he’ll be one of England’s best players in a couple of year’s time.
“Mason Greenwood is another good example. I think England know these guys are ready but I think they’re just trying to take their time. There’s a lot of players in there. You think of James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Mason Mount but Phil is more special.
“In between the lines I don’t think there’s anyone like him. You can’t coach what he has. All the boys are super talented but his numbers show that he is effecting games already, whatever his age is.”
