Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified three defensive transfer targets as possible centre-back partner for captain Harry Maguire.
According to ESPN, the Norwegian has a drawn up a three-man shortlist comprising of Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake, Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli.
Solskjaer appeared to make his intentions known to Ake following Saturday’s 5-2 win against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
He told the 25-year-old: “Good luck.”
Ake replied: “Cheers, thank you”, before Solskjaer appeared to follow up with: “We need a left-footed centre-back, so keep going”.
The Dutchman has two years left on his current deal with the Cherries who are fighting relegation, and he will likely be sold should they go down.
The same can be said of Mings, who is also fighting relegation with Aston Villa. He would have a chance to audition when United take on Villa on Thursday.
Romagnoli has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and the Italy international would likely command a bigger fee.
