Manchester United may not kick off the 2020/21 season on the same day as everyone else, if a new report is to be taken seriously.
According to The Sun, United fans may have to forget seeing their favourite team play on August 22, if the next Premier League season begins on that day.
This of course, is only possible if United plays in the Europa League final on August 21, a day before the proposed start of the 2020/21 season. If that happens, our game will have to be rescheduled for mid-week, to allow the boys get some rest before starting a new season.
The report further adds that there are other kick off dates being considered, including August 29 and September 12, although most Premier League clubs are in favour of the latter date.
Premier League officials have however warned August 22 is a likelihood and clubs should expect anything, as they don’t want the season to in any way clash with players’ preparations for Euro 2021.
It’s a little crazy, really, but if it happens, we’ll all just have to accept it and hope to push through it somehow.
Meanwhile, United will return to action in Europe on August 6, when we face LASK Linz again, in the reverse encounter of our round of 16 clash.
