Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Scott McTominay can fit into another position at the club aside the one he’s currently known for.
The Scotsman plays as a midfielder for Man United, and has done well at it, but Neville says he may be best suited for central defence.
He said on Sky Sports, after the 23 year old came on as a substitute: “Nemanja Matic does look resurrected in that red shirt.
“There was a period where he looked exposed in that midfield but with Fred, McTominay and now Pogba and Fernandes, he looks so much more comfortable again.
“I just watch McTominay play and I think of all that competition in midfield and I wonder whether he could be used as a centre-back.
“He’s got the aggression and he’s got the speed. His understanding of the game is pretty good and he’s still young.”
McTominay is a versatile player, but we’re not sure Olé would be willing to take a gamble with him in our defence, knowing what’s at stake at this time. Maybe at the end of the season, during our pre-season friendlies, but just not now.
