Academy product Angel Gomes is expected to leave Manchester United after deciding not to extend his contract with the club.
According to The Athletic, he was thought to be close to signing a new deal, but a lack of first-team opportunities have been identified as the main reason for his exit. The player has not been named in any of the three match-day squads since the restart of the league, and this raised doubts about his longterm future at the Theatre of Dreams.
The player was given assurances during negotiations that opportunities would come, but he has only played 291 minutes of first-team football this season.
Solskjaer was said not to fully impressed by Gomes’ form in the senior squad to give him extended opportunities and the club were wary about sending him out on loan in the final year of his contract.
The player has been linked with a move to rivals Chelsea.
