Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino was once monitored by Harry Maguire, and could have signed him back in 2016 after watching him play.
This is according to Tottenham star, Danny Rose, who, in a recent chat with Lockdown Tactics, recounted how a single performance from the United captain, who played for Hull City at the time, left Pochettino in admiration.
He said: “I remember we played Hull at White Hart Lane (in December 2016) and we won 3-0. Mauricio was manager and the gaffer was all over Harry (Maguire). I think they (Tottenham) were in for him.
“Once Poch took a liking to him I started to notice him straight away after that. It’s been a great journey for him.
“Training with him for England, you couldn’t get the ball off him. He’s so good. He fully deserves to be Manchester United captain.”
Maguire never joined Tottenham, and instead, made a switch to Leicester City, where he continued his good showing, and impressed enough to land a big money move to Old Trafford.
So far, this season, the 27 year old has been one of the absolute best in the league, and it’s no wonder he was voted United captain after Ashley Young’s exit.
