According to Sky Sports Germany, Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head with rivals Manchester City for the signature of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.
Both clubs are keen on adding defensive reinforcements and have set their sights on the £52 million-rated French defender.
While Leipzig are not among the Bundesliga clubs struggling for cash amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Upamecano’s contract expiry date and release clause could make it impossible for them to keep the 21-year-old.
The Frenchman’s deal at the Red Bull Arena expires in the summer of 2021 and his release clause stands at a reasonable £52.5 million.
Upamecano has established himself as a key player for Leipzig this season, featuring in 29 games across all competitions so far with Julian Nagelsmann’s side currently sitting third in the Bundesliga table.
