Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has opened up on what he went through after our loss to Barcelona in the Champions League final in 2009.
Ferdinand’s error led to Lionel Messi’s headed goal, after he failed to block a Xaxi Hernandez cross into the 18 yard box.
The 41 year old took a trip down memory lane in his recent chat with BT Sport, and recounted how he lost sleep over the incident.
“I lost sleep over that many many times,” he said.
“I bet that Xavi couldn’t get the ball over my head from that distance and that’s why I’m glad not a betting man.
“Against lesser players you can gamble but if you bet against class you get punished. They were the bane of our lives.”
Messi’s 80th minute goal was the final nail on the coffin for United on the night, after Samuel Eto’o had scored the opener in the 10th minute.
