Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has enjoyed a fine debut season in the Italian Serie A, having joined Roma on loan. The England international has been named one of the best players in the Italian league season so far by Whoscored.Com.
The season is currently on a hiatus in Italy and most parts of the world, but it hasn’t stopped Smalling from getting acknowledgement for his contributions towards AS Roma’s success this term.
The list comprises of the very best in the Serie A, including Ciro Immobile, Cristiano Ronaldo and former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Smalling is given a rating of 7.11, slightly below his centre back partner Lazio’s Francesco Acerbi, who is rated 7.12.
The list has reportedly been compiled based on individual performances, so this obviously means that Smalling has done very well.
Smalling joined Roma on loan last summer, and may either remain in Italy or return to England to rejoin the rest of his United teammates in the summer, as his future is yet to be sorted.
