Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged striker Anthony Martial to score 20 goals this season after the Frenchman salvaged a 1-1 draw for the club away to Club Brugge in the Europa League.
“I think Anthony can step up, get a few more and get to the 20 mark,” the Norwegian said.
“He’s got quality of course, he’s a very good finisher. He takes his chances really well. There’s good technique in his finishing.
“He’s good receiving the ball at times and dropping off. He can play almost like a false nine as well.
“Sometimes I’d like him to be stronger physically.”
Solskjaer was also quick to ask for more involvement from Martial during games.
“It was a good goal [against Club Brugge]” Solskjaer added.
“He wasn’t really in the game before he scored the goal.
“We didn’t make enough runs in behind to create space for Anthony and it was a frustrating night for him until then.
“Good goal and then he gets a chance with his left foot; good strike and good save by [Simon] Mignolet.
“He’s got two goals in two games and you’ve got to be patient as a striker.
“Sometimes you want to drift wide and get a touch on the ball, but that’s not the job for a striker.
“You’ve got to be patient, you’ve got to be concentrating when the chance comes and he scored a goal today. Created one or two other chances.
“But, of course, the runs have got to come from around him and maybe not enough.”
