Former United striker names the two favourites to win the Europa League

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has named the club the club as favourites to win the Europa League trophy this season alongside former side Arsenal.

Van Persie has named United as well as last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, Ajax as the favourites to win the tournament.

Speaking about the competition to Omnisport, the Dutchman said:

“Arsenal and Man Utd surely are the favourites to win.

“Ajax were knocked out of the Champions League in a harsh manner. They also have a chance at winning the Europa League and have a very good squad too.

“In the Europa League, Premier League clubs tend to field a mix of players up until the knockout phase. From this point on, they tend to use their best 11.

“Up until now it’s been a mix between first-team players and substitutes. I think they are in it to win it. That is the way they should prepare because it is a great title that is up for grabs.”

The club face Belgian side Club Brugge in the round of 32 while the Gunners will have to go up against Greek giants Olympiacos.
