United legend Paul Scholes reveals why Manchester United were lucky against Chelsea

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has waded into the VAR controversies in our game against Chelsea. The former midfielder has claimed the Blues couldn’t get decisions their way because their bench was too passive.

Scholes is certain Maguire should have been given his marching orders and claimed the United captain would have been sent off had Jose Mourinho, rather than Frank Lampard, been sitting in the Chelsea dugout.

He said: “I think the reaction from the Chelsea bench could have been a bit more aggressive. I think if Mourinho is on the Chelsea bench he would be going ballistic and been holding his hand up [waving a card].”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted VAR played a role in his side’s defeat:

“Harry Maguire should have been sent off I think that’s quite clear from how I saw it and that obviously changes the game,” he said.

“With the Azpilicueta one I think he gets shoved to then shove the player in front of him and Oli’s offside by a toenail.”
