Manchester United Legend Andy Cole has named two areas striker Anthony Martial needs to improve on.

The former United striker has urged the Frenchman to work on his ball retention and positioning in the box if he wants to be the club’s first-choice striker for years to come.

“Martial sees himself as a No.9,” he said in an interview with Goal.

“He has to work on a few things as well to improve himself – ball retention, getting in the right areas to score goals, just like Marcus is doing now in the wide areas.

“If you’re going to play as a No.9 at whatever level, you have to run in the box because that’s how you are going to score goals. Nothing ever changes. The goal never moves and if you don’t run into the box then you know that your chances of scoring goals becomes very limited.”

The Frenchman is often criticised for his poor displays in games. He’s scored only twice in his last nine outings in all competitions.

The 24-year-old has netted 12 goals in 28 appearances for the club this season.
