Former Manchester United player Nicky Butt has named Belgian midfielder Adnan Januzaj as the biggest disappointment of the club’s academy in his years at the club.
Speaking to ESPN FC, the head of first-team development said:
“For me, the biggest disappointment at this club was Adnan Januzaj.
“I don’t think I’ve seen a player, probably since Ryan Giggs, who was as good as that. He was unbelievable. In my eyes he should have gone on to be a world superstar.”
Januzaj broke into first team back in 2013 under David Moyes, quickly becoming one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League.
However, the Belgian couldn’t cope with the expectations at Old Trafford and moved to Real Sociedad in 2017 following a series of unsuccessful loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.
