Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said the club will soon announce who will be the next club captain.
The departure of Antonio Valencia last season meant the team will be needing a new captain ahead of the new season. Several names have been suggested, the likes of Nemanja Matic, David De Gea, Juan Mata, Chris Smalling, but no final decision yet.
More so, different players have led the team in pre-season, and Ole’s yet to agree on one.
He is quoted by the club’s official website:
“We’ve got different captain types. There are vocal leaders and players like David [De Gea], who has merit with what he’s done and he’ll play the majority of the games. We’ll announce something soon.”
In response to a poll by MEN Sport, more than half of United supporters picked goalie De Gea to be captain.
The goalkeeper polled 55 per cent of the vote, Pogba 20 per cent, Victor Lindelof got 19 per cent and Juan Mata only six per cent – from almost 7,000 respondents. Other names suggested included Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire – if, of course, the latter signs from Leicester City, with United still in pursuit of his signature.
