Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has been earmarked as one of the players likely to become United Captain. The Serbian has captained the team in pre-season and has been tipped by Manchester United legend Bryan Robson to provide leadership.
“It’s getting on that pitch and demanding from your team-mates and then trying to lead by example as well,” Robson said.
“That is what some of our lads have got to step up to the mantle and prove that.
“When I look at the United squad and watch training, Chris Smalling and Nemanja Matic have got it in them.”
Matic admits he is flattered by Robson’s words.
“It’s always great to hear when someone like Mr. Robson says good things,” Matic said, according to Daily Mail. “It means something to me.
“Of course I am one of the most experienced players in the team and I will try to lead them the best way I can.
“As for the future, maybe, who knows? The manager has to make the decision about the captain. Whatever he decides, we’ll be happy, of course.
“The captaincy is important but, if we play good football and fight for each other, that is the most important.”
