Former Premier League player, Danny Mills believes United goalkeeper, David De Gea deserves his new bumper deal for his loyalty to the club.
Report have revealed that the Spaniard is to expected to sign a long-term Man United deal once the team are back from the summer tour.
While the rumoured £375,000-a-week may seem ridiculous money, ex Manchester City player Danny Mills feels he is well worth the pay.
Mills had this to say:
“He only made a couple of mistakes, it happens from time to time. He hasn’t been played in a fantastic side. When you look at the saves he’s made, he’s a young goalkeeper, he knows the club inside out, he’s shown massive loyalty when he could’ve gone to Real Madrid.
“He was 25 seconds away from Madrid with that fax machine not working. It didn’t happen. Most players would throw the toys out of the pram at that stage. He didn’t. He came back, knuckled down, worked incredibly hard, and was their best player for the next 3-4 seasons.”
“It’s a smidgeon, the £21m a year. Alright, it’s ridiculous but if you’re going to replace David De Gea with a top keeper that’s going to cost you northwards of £60m. So you’ve already got an outstanding goalkeeper for nothing. Keepers can play until…you know, Buffon (41) is still playing!”
