Manchester United’s interest in Leicester City defender Harry Maguire is receiving a late challenge by bitter rivals, Manchester City.
Recent report claimed United are thought to be closing in on signing Maguire and the player was due to undergo a medical with the Red Devils.
Despite United appearing to be the clear favourites to sign the player, City have not given up hope of signing Maguire and are looking to outdo their city rivals in the deal for the English defender.
But Foxes boss, Brendan Rodgers has warned against time-wasting in getting a deal done for the want away defender.
“There will be a cut-off point,” said Rodgers.
“We can’t leave ourselves short. There are targets we have in mind if Harry was to move on. But we don’t have to sell.
“If the valuation isn’t met it certainly won’t be allowed to go to the very end because, if we did want to bring someone in, it would be too late.
“So there will be a point – even if the valuation is met – it may just be too late.”
Leicester City manager has claims that Maguire is happy at Leicester, however ESPN journalist Mark Ogden has been told Maguire is actually keen on this summer’s exit from the King Power Stadium, and has already informed the club and his teammates about his decision.
“Leicester want at least £80m for him, potentially rising to £90m depending if and when they sell him, and United have initially offered £40m for him, so half of what Leicester value him at,” Ogden said.
“I’ve been told United will go higher and believe they’ll get him because Maguire has been telling Leicester and his team-mates he wants to leave.
“But the window shuts on August 8, and I think that is going to run and run.”
