Manchester United midfielder and academy product, Jesse Lingard has received scathing criticisms for both his off field and on field output.
However, former football star turned boxer Curtis Woodhouse believes the 26-year-old remains an exceptional player amid the criticisms he gets from United fans.
The ex-Sheffield United midfielder took to Twitter to give his support for Lingard.
Woodhouse wrote: “Do people not realise how good Jesse Lingard is? Serious question, do you not realise how outstanding he is?
“Some things I read make me want to cry! If he’s crap then we might as well all pack up and not bother. He’s ELITE! Absolute top top drawer footballer. Just facts please.”
Even manager Solskjaer had recently called out the player to improve his game.
“Jesse has proved before with his big-game goals that he’s valuable. But of course I’m going to demand more of him,” said Solskjaer.
“I think he will be the first one to know that his last season was not up to standard. What we have discussed can be between the two of us but I expect more from him and he knows what I expect.”
Solskjaer added: “Jesse knows what it is to be a Man United player. At times maybe he’s made one or two bad decisions but he’s made more good decisions than bad decisions. He’s a top boy.”
Lingard responded with a good showing in United 1-0 victory over Inter.
The Manager was pleased and had this to say:
“I don’t know how many times Jesse won the ball today – [he’s] one of the best ones in that pressing football.”
