Manchester United have been linked with Leicester City defender Harry Maguire for the past two seasons, but the club has been unable to sign the England international.
Former United boss Jose Mourinho was keen on signing Maguire, and current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen to sign the 25-year-old as he seeks to strengthen his defence ahead of the new season.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has hailed Maguire and believes that the England international has what it takes to be a top defender.
“If you think of the attributes of centre-backs, he has them in abundance,” said Neville.
“Leicester fans won’t thank me for this, but they’re going to be under real pressure to keep him this summer.
“We talk about John Stones being good on the ball, I actually think Maguire is the equal of him on the ball.
“A big statement, maybe, as Stones is seen as the composed, ball-playing centre-back, but I think Maguire is just as good on the ball.”
Solskjaer is believed to want a right-back, a centre-back, a central midfielder and a forward to bolster his squad ahead of the new season. United have already confirmed the signing of speedy winger Daniel James.
