Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford was a transfer target for Barcelona this summer but the Spanish champions have reportedly dropped their interest in the 21-year-old.

According to Daily Express, Barcelona have dropped their interest in Rashford because they feel it would be too expensive to lure him away from Manchester United.

It is believed Manchester United will demand a transfer fee around £150,000,000 for Rashford.

Rashford is stalling on signing a new contract at Old Trafford with his current deal set to run out in 2020, but there is an option of extending it by 12 months.

According to the report, Rashford is stalling on signing a new contract because he wants more than £200,000 a week to commit himself to Manchester United.  Daily Express also claims Barcelona are unwilling to meet Rashford’s contract demands.

Barcelona feel Rashford is too expensive and believe they can get better value for money elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Rashford has been rewarded for his fine form this season and has been nominated for the Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year award for the second successive season.

The 21-year-old has been in his best ever form for Manchester United and has banged in 10 league goals already this season, with 2 goals in the Champions League and 2 goals in the League Cup.

The academy product reached 150 appearances for United in January’s home win over Brighton, a game in which he scored to mark the milestone.

Despite his achievements, Romelu Lukaku has described Rashford as level-headed while also admitting he isn’t surprised by Rashford’s recent success for Manchester United.

“I expected it from him to be honest, with the qualities that he has, the work that he’s been doing on the pitch,” Lukaku said of Rashford.

“He is a level-headed young guy and he already knows what he wants, so I’m really happy with the performances that he is delivering for the team.”
