Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Louis van Gaal after the former Manchester United boss branded United’s style of play under Solskjaer as ‘park-the-bus and counter-attack.’

“Van Gaal is entitled to his opinion,” Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference after United had defeated Watford 2-1.

“We’ve been looking at games. Some games, we’ve pressed really high and won the ball up there and dominated.

“It’s about where you win the ball. You want to defend, to win the ball to go forward. You have to win the ball to attack and for me there’s two ways.

“Can you attack quickly, like we did today — why not? As long as your intention is, when you win the ball, to attack.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United legend David Beckham has backed his former Manchester United team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to enjoy continued success as the club’s permanent manager.

Beckham told Sky Sports News: “It’s great he has done an incredible job, so he deserves the contract he has got.

“He is loved by the fans and the players and everyone else at the club. He has done a great job and it will continue because real fans love him. It’s great for the club and great for him.”
