Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in December after the Portuguese was sacked two and a half years into his reign as Manchester United manager.
Solskjaer was appointed on an interim basis and the Norwegian has won nine of his first 10 games in charge of the club so far, with points only dropped in a 2-2 draw to Burnley.
United have a couple of difficult upcoming fixtures in this month of February, and Solskjaer will be bracing up for big games against the likes of Liverpool on February 24, as well as a two-legged Champions League tie against PSG, and a league clash to Chelsea.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has revealed that if Solskjaer can win these games, he will be sure of getting the Manchester United job on a permanent basis.
“If they beat Chelsea, beat PSG, beat Liverpool, Solskjaer is absolutely in the box seat and you’d be saying, ‘How can you not give it to him?’”Neville told Sky Sports.
“The club have appointed two big names with the last two appointments and it hasn’t worked out.
“The idea of Ole going through that run of fixtures and coming out of it well, you couldn’t sit here conceivably and see another manager.
“But I think Ole himself will think, ‘Let’s get through February and March and if I’m doing what I’m doing now, I’ve staked a claim’.
“At this moment he is staking a claim but he knows there are massive challenges to come.”
For Solskjaer, he was happy to get the 1-0 win against Leicester City and praised his players for their performance.
He said: “As I said we put our bodies on the line, there were a couple of bruised noses and knees, and dead legs. They fought for their three points today. I think we deserved it in that respect. In the second half when we could have controlled it more, we could have slowed it down. But we defended really well. Eric and Victor were fantastic and David again of course.
“If you have the foundation of a clean sheet you’ll always be in with a chance to win a game and we’ve got a keeper that saves us, we’ve got a back four that sacrifices everything in the box, a couple of midfielders who made a couple of great blocks, that was absolutely amazing to watch and the attitude has been spot on ever since I came.”
