Liverpool host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday and ahead of the game, Manchester United legend Gary Neville and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher selected combined XIs.
Gary Neville selected Paul Pogba as a holding midfielder in his Liverpool-Manchester United combined XI, a decision which Carragher didn’t agree with.
Neville selected Pogba holding in the middle of a three alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita and Carragher responded and laughed: “Holding what? He’s the most undisciplined player of all time!”
Neville then explained his decision to include Pogba in his midfield three: “I didn’t pick him with much conviction to be honest with you. I was clutching at straws. Matic. Jordan Henderson and James Milner they’re in and out of that midfield in terms of playing.
“I wasn’t convinced by anything just through what’s been happening. I just thought it’s an opportunity for me to put a United player in to be honest!”
Neville also insisted Pogba was the most talented midfielder at either club, despite falling out of favour with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.
Neville selected seven Liverpool players in his XI, with only David de Gea, Eric Bailly, Pogba and Anthony Martial making the cut.
Carragher selected only De Gea and Nemanja Matic in his combined XI.
In the Monday Night Football combined XI they settled on a team that included only four Manchester United players – DeGea, Bailly, Pogba and Matic.
