Manchester United will take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday and former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has urged Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho to scare Manchester City by playing the trio of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up front.
According to Fletcher, playing the trio up front will give United plenty of pace up front.
“They should treat the game like they did the second half against City last season where they took the game at them and they were brave and they tried to get up the pitch,” Fletcher said on Sky Sports.
“Manchester City are going to have long spells of possession and we know Pep Guardiola worries about the counter attack, tactical fouls and things like that were brought up.
“So I’d like to see pace in the front areas.
“Me personally I would like to see Rashford come in, I’d like to see Marcus come in there (for Mata), which was almost how they ended the game (at Bournemouth).”
Romelu Lukaku missed the 2-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday and he could be available for selection against Manchester City on Sunday.
Fletcher wants Mourinho to leave out Lukaku if he’s fit because the trio mentioned above would “frighten” City on the counter attack.
“It’s a big dilemma really,” Fletcher said of Lukaku potentially being available again.
“I think there is a lot more fluidity, a lot more movement with this front three.
“They could end up anywhere that front three as well, a bit like the United of old with (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Carlos) Tevez and Wayne (Rooney).
“They don’t necessarily have to stay in those positions.
“But that would frighten Man City on the counter attack, Man City having possession of the ball would be scared of that.”
