Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera turned the game around when he came off the bench in Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday.
Former Manchester United defender David May thinks Ander Herrera has earned a place in the starting line up to face Juventus after his performance vs Bournemouth.
According to May, Manchester United need somebody like Herrera in our midfield when we play Juventus on Wednesday after the Italian club ran the midfield at Old Trafford.
“I think Ander could have played himself into the team there,” May told MUTV.
“I think when you look at Juventus, they just ran the midfield at Old Trafford and we couldn’t get anywhere near them.
“I think we need somebody in there like Herrera.”
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was impressed with Herrera’s performance against Bournemouth and credited the midfielder for inspiring Manchester United’s second-half transformation in the 2-1 victory at Bournemouth.
“I was happy with bringing Ander to the game because normally the intention, when you look for a better result than you have, is to play attacking players or in theory to make attacking changes,” Mourinho said after the victory at Bournemouth.
“I felt that the team needed a player like Ander to give us balance in that position, to give us more pressure, recover the ball faster and also to protect Ashley Young, so I think I was happy with that change. The team was much better and we created lots of chances.
“As a team, the team performed much better in the second half. The two points we lost in the last minute against Chelsea, we got them back.”
