Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku failed to make the squad for Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Lukaku was dropped to the bench for United’s 2-1 victory over Everton last weekend and he has now failed to make the bench for the game against Bournemouth.

Lukaku didn’t travel with the rest of the squad on the Friday after picking up an injury in training on Friday morning.

With the 25-year-old striker unavailable to face Bournemouth, Mourinho opted to start Alexis Sanchez in his place.

“In training yesterday, after the press conference, he felt something that needs to be studied in the next couple of days,” Mourinho told BT Sport.

“So Lukaku has not come and we decided to start with Alexis [Sanchez].”

Despite scoring regularly for Belgium, Lukaku is nine games without a goal for Manchester United even though he has played the full 90 minutes in all but one of those games, the 2-1 win over Everton last weekend.

Sanchez will start in the middle of the front three alongside Anthony Martial and Juan Mata. Sanchez has scored just once for Manchester United this season and he would be hoping to add to that tally against Bournemouth.
