Paul Pogba scored from a penalty kick in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford. But the France international will breathe a sigh of relief that he didn’t miss the chance after the goalkeeper saved his shot.
Pogba in his usual fashion delayed his run-up to the penalty kick by taking over 10 seconds to strike the ball, and Jordan Pickford saved his effort. But Pogba was fortunate that the ball fell straight back to him and he was able to tap the ball into the net.
Speaking after the game, Pickford admitted that he knows Pogba’s trick for penalties which is why he was able to save his penalty.
Pickford said: “I know his little trick which is why I saved it. I was unfortunate. You have to go a tad early because he has so much power but unfortunately it just bounced back out.”
Pogba has now admitted that keepers have gotten used to his style and that he may have to change techniques.
Asked if he will change his run-up, Pogba replied: “I always try and destabilise the keeper, maybe they know how I take penalties.
“Maybe I should practice to change it, if the keepers know my step.”
